Advanced Training Desired

In 2016, our employees participated in over 43,000 days of advanced training – which is nearly 1,200 more days than in the previous year. Each employee participated, on average, in 5.5 days of advanced training during normal working hours. Among other reasons, advanced training activities significantly exceeded the average of recent years due to changing business requirements.

Part-Time Work for Work-Life Balance

At the end of the reporting period, the percentage of employees in a part-time position remained stable year over year, standing at 23%. Managers and employees work out personalized solutions in individual cases so that both sides benefit, which gives as many employees who want to work part-time the ability to do so. Furthermore, a total of 57 managers now also work part-time.

Qualified Women Wanted

As a modern and attractive employer, we support working conditions that are free of gender bias and oriented around different stages of life. A large percentage of female employees is part of this humanresource strategy. We want to continue supporting this and further increase the number of qualified women we employ. The total share of female employees remained largely unchanged at 41%, while the percentage of female members of management increased further, standing at 29% (2015: 28%).

Employees Use Subsidized Tickets for Public Transportation

We began subsidizing subscriptions for tickets for public transportation for our employees back in 1991. Currently, 2,704 employees (2015: 2,661 employees) take public transportation to work each day using our company subscription. In doing so, they actively support DATEV’s commitment to environmental protection.

Lower Paper Consumption

Compared to the previous year, paper consumption declined slightly by 29 tons (0.7%), down to a total of 3,958 tons. The volume of documents that we printed and mailed for third parties as well as in accounting declined slightly.

Less Waste

The amount of waste generated declined year over year, totaling only 2,550 tons, equal to 112 tons less than in 2015. The construction activities on the plots of land along Sigmundstrasse and Virnsberger Strasse as a result of moving generated less waste than the structural renovations carried out on Fürther Strasse and Obere Kanalstrasse the previous year.

Lower Power Consumption

In 2016, electricity consumption decreased slightly by 0.5% year over year, to a total of 42,734 MWh. Closing the locations on Gutenstetter Strasse und southern Fürther Strasse had a positive effect on power consumption. In addition, Green IT measures for our data centers as well as weather conditions also played a role. The mild summer and cold winter led to us using less energy for cooling in 2016, instead using more outside air. The Power Usage Effectiveness value (PUE value) for the DATEV I data center decreased accordingly to 1.46 (2015: 1.48).
